PAGE DEVELOPMENT

Here's a look at how I develop a finished page.

Based on story notes, I rough out a page with blue pencil on 11X17 copy bond then add further detail with black felt pen. Once I'm happy with page layout (BTW- my current page layout is based on choosing a scene in the story that becomes the largest panel- actually a full page illustration that a number of smaller story panels are inset onto) I'll trace that onto a piece of 2 ply vellum bristol board in blue pencil. I'll proceed to ink the page using a black 'pigma' micron .05 disposable technical pen. Additionally, those areas I want to have a more natural flowing look (i.e. hair, etc.) I'll use india ink and a brush, windsor newton series 7 size 00. Once the page is inked, I'll scan and color in photoshop, lastly adding text and word balloons in photoshop as well.
